With the world's growing focus on techniques and technologies that promote the welfare of the environment, there comes a number of instances when items are marketed to become organic and environment-friendly when they are not. The term "green living" has been extensively used as a marketing tool of a number of companies in order to enhance their image. The practice is quite sick, actually, but it works for them.
It is still heartening to know, however, that some countries and companies make it a point that they stick with their images of environment-friendliness and enact actual measures that will define their part. For one, Costa Rica has already had a global reputation in this topic, which is why it managed to top global charts of environment-friendliness in the first place.
What can be a better way of showing this dedication by having one of your primary airlines be certified carbon-neutral. Yes, that was the case for Nature Air, the world's first certified carbon-neutral airline. By enacting measures that promote fuel efficiency and personal responsibility, it was able to offset any carbon emission that it is making during every flights.
Air travel may be fast, but it it also the quickest way of polluting the atmosphere, due to its proximity to the outer layer. With rapid growth and the absence of controlling policies, things will only get worse.
Among the measures used by Nature Air to reduce emissions are through twin-engine fleets, controlled aircraft weight, and planning of efficient routes. What it first did is to compute the carbon emission created through a 12-month period. The methods of calculation are precised and submitted to the national environment authority for approval.
Once the amount of carbon emitted is computed, it then invests in projects to amass the needed amount of carbon offset. Included here are programs to introduce sustainable development, hiring of workers that will be in civil work (recycling paper and other things). The company has also founded Aerotica, the country's first alternative-fuel station.
If you're an environmentalist, there really are very few things you can complain about government efforts here towars sustainable development. In this regard, we can consider Costa Rica a model that we should all follow.
