Costa Rica is very rich in wildlife, mainly because of the protection afforded by well-managed national parks and public wildlife protection legislation. A mayor contributor to a vast array of flying species is the Hummingbird. We are told that there are over 50 species of Hummingbird in Costa Rica. Certainly enough for everyone! One of the main groups is the parrot species of which one of the most spectacular is the Scarlet Macaw, a very coloful bird subject to being kept as a pet and therefore in peril. Thankfully there are laws protecting it!
