Have you ever felt depressed over things that you cannot possibly work on anymore? Have you ever wondered why things just didn't go well as you planned? Chances are you have. Everybody makes mistakes. Everybody falls short of expectations at times. This is just magnified when the pressure and expectation rises too much. And when reality hits you that it can't be done, you get depressed.
I do get depressed at times. When there's so much room in your day for thinking, it's difficult not to think about the things that make you sad. Frustrations, unfulfilled expectations--I have so many of those. Busy days just keep them from coming in. And you know what I do when I have time and I feel a little depressed? I go to the beach. Costa Rica has a lot of them.
You're probably going to say that most beaches in Costa Rica are crowded with strangers. Where am I going to go, you ask? Fortunately, Costa Rica's west coast is traditionally less populated than the other sides of the country. The Gulf of Papagayo, for example, is one place that I recommend for those who want to do a little soul searching. Against the backdrop of forests and a sole bar, with a numebr of parrots flying nearby, it's so difficult to not fall in love with this side of Costa Rica.
Once you see the beach, worries just go away by themselves, I noticed. To see the waves inch their way towards me before clashing against the rocks of the shore is something that I've been always fascinated with. Like waves, which "knew" that they will come to an end somehow, time will also come when our lives on this planet will end. But does that matter? No, because it's a fact of life that we cannot change. What we can do instead is to enjoy the trip until we clash with the shores. Forget about the frustrations. Forget about those unfulfilled expectations.
Just enjoy the ride.
