Many small countries with little infrastructure for international tourism are finding relief in environmental tourism.
Instead of spending millions on new roads, hotels, and shopping centers which inevitably ticks off the local populace as usually someone has to move off their ancestral land, they can simply clean up the back roads, add a few rest stops and ranger stations, and voila! Tourist friendly and environmental friendly.
Costa Rica is one of those countries that has found it necessary to publicize its many biking routes and natural sites, and it has found a measure of success in doing so as well.
