Need a break from the busy atmosphere in the likes of Puerto Viejo? Well just nearby Limon is a black-sand beach city that will provide you with a laid-back Caribbean vibe, enough to let you relax and stay away from the bustle of the metropolis. I'm talking about the city of Cahuita.
Cahuita, which was first known as "The Bluff," is located in Talamanca Canton of Limon province. The original settlement is located inside the famous Cahuita National Park, though downtown area is just actually nearby.
The city primarily has an Afro-Caribbean vibe, although traces of internationalization from the people who visit here and put up businesses can be seen. Most of the businesses here, however, are locally owned. This integration of different cultures in the downtown make it a perfect Caribbean getaway for the culturally interested.
And as mentioned above, the downtown area is just very near the Cahuita National Park. Once here, you'll see a couple more of beaches, hiking trails, park shelters, and one of only two living coral reefs that can be found in Costa Rica (the other one can be found in nearby Manzanillo). Aside from just sight-seeing, there are also opportunities for snorkeling during certain times of the year. Now's the chance to get up close and personal with the marine life living near Cahuita.
With Puerto Viejo's immediate rise as a party center in Costa Rica, nearby Cahuita makes the perfect complement for this. After a hard night of non-stop partying, you can go ahead and head on over to Cahuita to have a quiet day at the beach, relaxing your body after a long night spent at the party.
In the meantime, the rest of your friends shall be left in Puerto Viejo, where the parties do not seem to have an ending. Happy relaxing!
