Spas and health centers are pretty common all throughout Costa Rica, but not all of them are placed in a suiable place, where the environment itself can help you find that much-needed peace and relaxation. Some of them are placed in the city, where it is admittedly noisier. If there was only heavy pollution, you'd think this is some kind of joke.
Far our in the coffee-growing hills of Alajuela state, however, is a new spa and health center constructed by the Vista del Valle Plantation Inn. It's a new health center that promises to give you the peace that you most definitely deserve.
Aside from the newly created health center, ChiSpa, the center also has other venues where you can relax, unwind, and practice physical activities. Included here is a dojo, where you can exercise the Eastern way with the large number of yoga, tai chi, qigong, and martial arts classes. According to this article from The Tico Times, efforts are also underway to institute a place for Japanese flower arranging (ikebana), calligraphy, and tea parties.
It's really an Eastern way towards wellness. It isn't all about spas, where all you is to just lie down. You also get to stretch your muscles a bit and find out your potential as a fighter. A couple of visiting instructors have already said that they are willing to share their practices to the greater world.
Best of all, you're near a coffee-growing farm in Alajuela, which means you are far away from the noises of the city. Now that's a complete wellness package for all of us! I just hope that they have created new ways by which they will be able to make these activities more sustainable. If that happens, you can bet that more people will be present in the health center--though, I'm sure we'd like to have less people in there!
